Music Addict

Busy in her first gig and wondering what happened to all the frivolity.

So I know this is kind of sudden but I think I have a tentative post-undergrad plan. I just discovered this graduate program in Higher Education Administration, which prepares you for just that, higher positions in college affairs. At first glance it sounded great, because I love the university setting and the whole process of college. I started reading all the colllege literature starting my sophomore year of high school, even schools I knew I wouldn't attend. I memorize the course guide every term, know the university requirements by memory, and help a bunch of my friends make schedules. Also, I love working with kids in this age group. So far I have a year's experience as a voice T.A. and by the time I graduate will have a year and a half as a peer tutor in our writing center. So yeah, sounded like a good idea. Then I went to our hugely impressive graduate library (something else I love about the college campus) and skimmed some primary works in the field. They interested me and made me feel even more like this would be a good option.

If I did this, I could get a job as an academic advisor, assistant dean, director of student affairs, registrar, etc. And hopefully help take away some of the confusion students have in navigating college rather than add to it.

Also, after researching all this for a week straight, I fell in love with the programs and settings of NYU and Columbia in New York, so I tentatively plan to apply to those two so far.

Now all this is subject to change, but I am really excited about it right now and think this just might be where I'm headed.

Now I just need financial aid and scholarships. Luckily I have a while still to figure it all out.

What a weird feeling. The English major finds direction in something mildly lucrative. Who would have thought.
